Port Talbot Youth Theatre

An exciting youth theatre project in Port Talbot for 11-19 year olds

At the regular FREE weekly workshops you will:

  • learn high quality theatre skills taught by in-house and visiting experts
  • visit local theatres on our free trips
  • get to know people and form a community you’ll love to be a part of

We learn a range of skills including script writing and devising work, acting techniques, movement and voice, physical theatre and improvisation. The youth theatre exists to unearth emerging local talent, make bold and exciting work, give a chance for young people’s voices to be heard, encourage members to develop a lifelong passion for the performing arts, and to offer a practical and realistic springboard to further education, including a potential theatrical career.

NYAT has won Youth Services Development Award 2024 for this youth theatre project under the category of Excellence in Arts & Culture.

Our youth theatre made and edited this video about the impact of the project.

What people think

“I love watching the members develop their confidence, resilience, interpersonal skills whilst having fun! I love how inclusive it is! I love the opportunities that have been given to the young people, some of which they would never have experienced if it wasn’t for the NYAT.”

Youth Theatre leader

“I like the way the children are gaining acting skills from exceptional teachers. My daughter absolutely loves acting, but as a family we struggle to pay for her to attend drama school. The opportunity she has been given by NYAT is vital for her future acting career.”
