2/10 Reason to Support NYAT: Making arts education accessible to the financially disadvantaged.

It’s NYAT’s 10th consecutive year of our most successful and flagship project of Bursary Scheme which directly helps young people across UK access an education in the arts which they would otherwise not be able to gain or find it difficult to gain due to socio-economic difficulties. We have already awarded 495 bursaries till Nov 2024. We disburse 50-100 music, dance & drama bursaries up to £1,000 per person every year which go towards paying tuition fees, covering equipment cost, accommodation, travel, etc for the young person attending arts school.

“Words cannot express just how grateful I am to have received a scholarship from NYAT, for it has gifted me access to a training which I never before believed I could have. The opportunity to train at Guildhall has been nothing short of life changing, and has been completely transformative not only for my growth as an actor, but for my development as an artist, and an individual.  The barriers to accessing a dramatic training are a lived reality shared by many, and my journey into drama school was no exception.”

“I decided to apply for an NYAT bursary to help with my tuition fees as I got into The MGA Academy of Performing Arts, and it has always been a dream to study somewhere like MGA. NYAT website was so welcoming and easy to understand that I knew that they would be a good place to apply for. My course is full time and I was worrying that I wouldn’t be able to work enough hours out with the course to pay for the tuition fees. Thanks to NYAT I can focus more on my studies and not have to worry so much about the financial part. I will forever be thankful for NYAT for choosing to help support me in my career path.”

“As both my parents are disabled I did not want to put any additional stress onto them regarding my finances. Being neurodiverse, finding routine in my travel has been extremely helpful when it comes to training as I do not have to worry about misjudging how long it will take, getting lost or being overwhelmed by a new environment. NYAT bursary has allowed me to maintain my routine consistently rather than having to find a cheaper alternative.”

“The support from NYAT has been immeasurable. As someone in full-time training at drama school who had to balance two jobs on top of a 33-hour week of classes in order to stay afloat, without the support from NYAT I don’t think I would have been able to continue my training. The constant and personalised support goes so much further than the bursaries- the team are always checking in and offering wonderful opportunities such as free show tickets and other things that otherwise would never be accessible for people like me. Thank you SO much! :)”

“After many ignored applications from other organisations, I received an email from NYAT granting me a bursary towards my training at drama school and I have never felt such utter joy and excitement. It has truly been an honour to have been trusted with such a wonderful opportunity and I am forever in debt from everyone at NYAT !”
