Since an access bursary helped pay his drama school fees, Afolabi has landed roles in a BBC series and the Royal Shakespeare Company’s new season.
Afolabi trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and applied for an NYAT access bursary to help pay his tuition fees. Since graduating, he has already landed a role in a new BBC series, and is part of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s new season – having been cast in Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth and The Merry Wives of Windsor.
“I would not have been able to start my tuition without an NYAT bursary. An NYAT bursary provides a gateway for young people from diverse backgrounds to reach their true potential in the world of arts.”

Training at drama school has given me the chance to make mistakes – to fail and learn from those mistakes and have the confidence to get back up to make bolder choices despite the risk of failure.
